OpenAI opened its first office in the Asian region in Japan

The American startup OpenAI, engaged in developments in the field of artificial intelligence, opened a representative office in Japan, which became the first in the Asian region.

The office will be located in Tokyo. It will be headed by Tadao Nagasaki, who was previously president of the local Amazon Web Services division.

Addressing potential partners in the Land of the Rising Sun via video conference, company CEO Sam Altman expressed hope that this event would be just the first step on a long path of cooperation with local businesses and would help establish contacts with regional clients.

OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap, who attended the opening ceremony of the Japanese office, said that the company has a large model optimized for the Japanese language. He also emphasized that over time the startup will be able to generate significant revenue in the Japanese market.

The creators of the popular chatbot ChatGPT planned to open an office in Japan last year after Sam Altman met with the country's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
