 China launched 5.5G communications

China Mobile, the largest mobile operator in China, announced the commercial launch of the new 5G-Advanced (5GA or 5.5G) wireless protocol.

Oppo Find X7 series smartphones will be the first devices to receive support for the new standard.

A photo of the Oppo Find X7 Ultra smartphone, in the status bar of which the 5GA network icon is visible, was published by Oppo CEO Pete Lau on his page on the Weibo social network. In addition, there is a publication on Weibo that the base model of the Oppo Find X7 will also receive 5.5G support.

5G-Advanced is the marketing name for the 3GPP Release 18 standard, which implies the use of “extraterrestrial networks”. That is, instead of ground stations, satellites will be used as network cells. The 5G-Advanced network will provide a threefold increase in connection speed: downloading up to 10 Gbit/s and uploading 1 Gbit/s. Telecom operator China Mobile has already set up demonstration sites across the country to give Find X7 owners the opportunity to try out the new data transfer standard.

This year, over 20 devices compatible with the new communication standard will appear on the market. By the end of this year, China Mobile plans to cover more than 300 Chinese cities with its new network, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
