BOMCA facilitated a study visit to Latvia for customs service representatives from Central Asian countries

From March 4th to 6th, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10), funded by the European Union, organized a study visit to Latvia for representatives of customs services from Central Asian countries.

The purpose of the visit was to provide an understanding of the implementation of national customs information systems in Latvia, as well as the digitalization process within the EU customs sphere. Participants observed the operation of Latvian customs information systems, the centralized control of transit procedures, and automated risk analysis. They were also introduced to the work of a customs laboratory and visited the Riga Freeport and Riga Airport, where they studied the application of common transit procedures and simplified declaration procedures. Specialists from the Latvian national postal operator "Latvijas Pasts" demonstrated the processes of sorting and processing postal items, data exchange with customs authorities, and automated declaration submission.

This visit represents a significant step in supporting integration and improving customs administration in Central Asia, thereby facilitating legitimate trade flows across borders.
