Elon Musk's company has successfully implanted a neurochip into the human brain
31.01.2024 | 14:10 |On his page on his own social network X, American billionaire Elon Musk announced that his company Neuralink has successfully implanted a wireless chip into the human brain for the first time.
The chip should serve as a link between the human brain and the computer. So, this is a receiver capsule that is attached behind the ear, like a hearing aid, and from which filamentous electrodes go to the brain. The device is capable of transmitting brain signals via Bluetooth.
In total, over a thousand electrodes are implanted in the brain.
According to the developers, the chip will help in the fight against both physical problems and mental disorders.
The first results of the device showed that it detects nerve impulses.
"Yesterday, the first person received an implant from Neuralink and is recovering well. Initial results show promising detection of neural spikes," the businessman wrote.
The recruitment of volunteers to test the implantation of implants started in September last year. Then it was reported that at the initial stage, the safety of the chip and the surgical robot with which it is implanted will be evaluated.
The project was launched in 2016. Previously, studies were conducted only on animals.
