Azerbaijan and Brazil to hold COP29 and COP30
15.12.2023 | 14:18 |Azerbaijan will host the 29th UN Global Climate Change Conference (COP29) in 2024, and Brazil will host COP30 in 2025.
This decision was made at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which ended in Dubai.
"We look forward to working together to continue to increase the pace of the fight against climate change," said Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al—Jaber, President of COP28, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the UAE.
In turn, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev noted that Azerbaijan is aware of the importance of joint efforts and collective work in mitigating the effects of climate change. The Republic stands for joint initiatives to accelerate progress towards a sustainable future.
COP30 will be held from November 10 to 21, 2025 in Belém, Brazilian state of Para. This is the gateway to the Amazon River.
In this regard, Brazilian Minister of Environment and Climate Change Marina Silva stressed the importance of the Amazon in the fight against climate change.
"Holding COP 30 in the heart of the forest is a reminder of our responsibility to preserve the planet," she said.
