Germany's imports of solar equipment from China amounted to more than €3.1 billion in 2022
03.03.2023 | 22:06 |In 2022, Germany imported equipment for solar power plants worth about €3.6 billion, while imports from China amounted to just over €3.1 billion, which is about 87% of total imports. This is reported by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis.
The Statistical Office also noted that the production of solar modules in Germany has increased significantly in recent years. In 2022, the production of solar modules increased by 44% compared to 2021 and by 75% from 2020.
China plays a key role in the development of solar energy in the world. It not only leads in terms of production and consumption of this type of energy, but also contributes to its distribution and accessibility to other countries.
At the end of 2020, China had an installed capacity of 253 gigawatts of solar power plants, which is about 36% of the total global capacity. In addition, China produces about 80% of the world's solar panels, providing the market with cheap and high-quality products.
China is actively developing solar energy as one of the ways to combat environmental pollution and reduce dependence on coal. The government of the country invests more in this industry than any other state — about 86 billion US dollars in 2017. As a result, China has achieved price parity with coal-fired power – that is, the cost of producing one kilowatt-hour of electricity from the sun has become equal or even lower than the cost of production from coal.
