Oriented on making people closer

The Embassy of Turkmenistan in France organized a mass bike ride dedicated to World Bicycle Day.

The event was attended by Embassy staff and their family members, representatives of the Turkmen diaspora living in Paris, as well as students from Turkmenistan and France studying at various universities in Paris.

The bike ride began in the famous Champ de Mars Park near the Eiffel Tower and passed through the most picturesque places in Paris, including the Quai Branly Museum, the Alexander III Bridge, the Invalides Palace, UNESCO headquarters, the Grand Palais Éphémère ("Grand Palais Ephemeral"), a military school and other wonderful places.

At the end of the event, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to France Maksat Charyev spoke about Turkmenistan's achievements in the field of physical culture and sports, as well as initiatives that the country is taking to promote a healthy lifestyle, including the establishment of World Bicycle Day and the adoption of the resolution "Integration of mass cycling into public transport systems to achieve sustainable development" at the UN.

It was also noted that sports diplomacy, being an important component of the foreign policy strategy of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, is aimed at strengthening the policy of peace and good-neighborliness, enhancing international cooperation in the field of high-performance sports, as well as popularization of a healthy lifestyle, formation of ecological culture and personal development of the country's younger generation.

World Bicycle Day was established on the initiative of Turkmenistan in April 2018 at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. The holding of this sports event in the year of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Pyragy and the year "The Storehouse of Reason of Magtymguly Pyragy" became a vivid demonstration of the commitment of the citizens of our country to Pyragy’s precepts about a healthy lifestyle, an example of large-scale work in popularizing physical culture and sports movement in Turkmenistan.
