The UN in Avaza Celebrates LLDC Awareness Day for the First Time

A briefing dedicated to the launch of the new International Day, approved by the UN General Assembly resolution, was held in Avaza on August 6. From now on, August 6 will be celebrated annually as the International Day of Awareness of the Special Needs and Problems of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs).

It is symbolic that this historic day is celebrated for the first time in Turkmenistan, during the Third UN Conference, which has become a universal platform for solving global problems.

Speaking at the briefing, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, UN High Representative Rabab Fatima and Permanent Representative of Bolivia to the UN Diego Pacheco emphasized that the main goal of the new day is to raise awareness of the world community about the challenges facing LLDCs. Among them are high costs of transporting goods, logistical barriers and climate threats.

There was general confidence that this day would become a powerful impetus for activating partnership and finding new effective solutions. The establishment of an international day is not only a recognition of the importance of the problem, but also a starting point for specific actions for the benefit of the sustainable development of these states.
