 The UN General Assembly President highly appreciated Turkmenistan's commitment to international norms

On August 4, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly Philemon Young in Avaza. The conversation took place on the sidelines of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

During the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation. They emphasized that multilateral cooperation is extremely important for ensuring peace, security and sustainable development. Particular attention was paid to the status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan. Philemon Young highly appreciated Turkmenistan's commitment to the UN Charter and international norms.

In turn, Rashid Meredov emphasized that positive neutrality does not isolate the country, but, on the contrary, contributes to the development of interaction and opens up new horizons for cooperation in various fields. The interlocutors noted with satisfaction that the adoption of the third UN resolution on the neutrality of Turkmenistan is a clear indication of broad international support.

The parties agreed that the conference in Avaza will become an effective platform for constructive dialogue and cooperation.

Parliaments are Key to Implementing Global Commitments

Speaking at the Avaza Parliamentary Forum on Monday, UN General Assembly President Philemon Young stressed that parliaments are critical to turning global commitments into real, measurable results at the national level. According to him, they form the legal basis for infrastructure, trade and innovation.

Young also noted that parliaments have budgetary powers to direct resources to priority sectors and ensure transparency and accountability of governments. He called for closer inter-parliamentary cooperation at the regional and global levels to address the unique challenges facing landlocked developing countries.
