Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Antonio Guterres Confirmed the Strategic Partnership Between Turkmenistan and the UN
05.08.2025 | 01:07 |On August 4, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Avaza. The visit of the high-ranking guest is connected with his participation in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3).
Welcoming the Secretary-General, the head of state thanked him for participating in the conference. He expressed confidence that the forum will successfully implement the Action Program adopted in December 2024 in the interests of landlocked countries.
António Guterres, in turn, noted that he was glad to visit Turkmenistan again. He highly appreciated the active approach of the Turkmen side to solving urgent problems and called Turkmenistan a key strategic partner of the UN in maintaining peace and sustainable development.
During the conversation, the parties emphasized the special significance of 2025 for bilateral cooperation. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the UN and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan gaining the status of permanent neutrality. In addition, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, 2025 was declared the International Year of Peace and Trust.
Both the President and the Secretary-General expressed confidence that the conference in Avaza will be an important step in achieving sustainable development on the planet, establishing connectivity and creating transport corridors.
António Guterres also highly appreciated Turkmenistan's progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and its peacekeeping potential, noting that it is used in the interests of all mankind.
