 Turkmenistan delegation in Geneva held meetings with heads of UNECE and UNCTAD

On April 8, on the sidelines of the upcoming 71st session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva, the delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, held a meeting with UNECE Executive Secretary Tatyana Molchan.

During the conversation, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for further cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UNECE, including cooperation in the field of sustainable development, trade, ecology, transport and energy.

On the same day, the Turkmen delegation met with Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Grynspan. The parties touched upon the topics of sustainable economic development, expansion of trade potential, digital transformation, investments, as well as strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNCTAD, according to a press release from the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

During the meetings, on behalf of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Tatyana Molchan and Rebeca Grynspan were presented with official invitations to the International Forum of Peace and Trust, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality, which will be held in Ashgabat in December.

The UNECE Executive Secretary and the head of UNCTAD expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasized the important role of Turkmenistan in promoting the principles of neutrality and sustainable international partnership.

The 71st session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe will be held on 9–10 April in the format of a face-to-face meeting at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
