 UNFPA conducts seminar on psychosocial support for families in Turkmenistan

From February 10th to 12th, 2025, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) office in Turkmenistan conducted a three-day seminar focused on psychosocial counseling for women and their families in crisis situations.

The event took place at the UN building in Ashgabat and brought together over 30 specialists, including psychologists, social workers, and representatives of public organizations.

The workshop aimed to improve the skills of specialists in the field of psychosocial counseling, teaching methods of working with women in crisis situations.

Over the three days, seminar participants discussed a wide range of topics, including issues of gender socialization, various aspects of domestic violence and its impact on psychological health.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan, psychologists and social workers of Family Support Services from all regions of the country, as well as representatives of the public association "Keyik Okara". The seminar was supported by an international UNFPA consultant.

Participants emphasized the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in assisting women and their families in crisis situations, and considered modern methods of psychological support.

The seminar became an important step in the development of a system of social support and psychological assistance in Turkmenistan.
