The world's first stretchable display is presented - it can expand by 50%
11.11.2024 | 13:30 |South Korean company LG Display has presented a prototype of the world's first truly stretchable display.
It can expand by 50% without compromising image quality. This is the highest figure in the industry.
The presentation took place at a meeting with industry representatives, scientists and researchers who are involved in the implementation of the project to create stretchable displays.
The prototype is equipped with a 12-inch screen that can be expanded to 18 inches. At the same time, a high resolution of 100 pixels per inch and a full RGB color gamut are maintained.
Compared to the first prototype of a stretchable display, which the company presented in 2022, the maximum stretchability of the new panel has more than doubled, from 20% to 50%.
To achieve this, the team used a special silicon substrate material commonly used in contact lenses.
The new panel is also durable. It can withstand repeated stretching up to 10,000 times. In addition, the display uses a micro-LED light source measuring only 40 micrometers, which ensures stable image quality even in difficult conditions with extreme temperatures or external impacts.
In addition to their unique stretchability, these thin, lightweight displays can also adhere to curved surfaces such as clothing or skin.
