Manchester United footballer becomes a Knight of the Order of the British Empire
12.10.2020 | 10:48 |Manchester United and England team forward Marcus Rashford has been awarded the Order of the British Empire. This was reported on the club’s website.
Rashford was recognized for participating in the campaign to organize free school meals for children from poor families during the coronavirus pandemic. In March, he raised about € 22 million for this purpose.
In addition, the forward called on the British Government to issue about 1.3 million vouchers for free school meals to children during the summer holidays, and after its end asked Prime Minister of the country Boris Johnson to extend the action.

- I'm deeply honored. I never thought I would receive this award, especially at the age of 22. This is a very special moment for me and my family, but especially for my mother, who really deserves the award, Rashford said.
According to the footballer, the situation of children from poor families is far from satisfactory.
- I would have acted unfairly if I had not used my opportunities to turn to the Prime Minister. The voucher scheme has to be extended as unemployment continues to rise, he said.
Rashford is a Manchester United player. As part of the team, he has gained four trophies, winning the Europa League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the National Super Cup. In all tournaments of 219 matches for Manchester United the forward scored 69 goals and made 39 assists.
Rashford has been playing for the England national team since 2016. In total, he has played in 38 matches and scored ten goals as a member of the national team.
