 First Meeting of Chief Justices of Supreme Court of China and Central Asian Countries Held in Urumqi

A meeting of Chief Justices of Supreme Court of China and Central Asian countries was held in Urumqi. The event ended on September 24 with the adoption of a statement by its participants, which noted that consolidating and strengthening judicial exchanges and cooperation between China and the Central Asian countries will contribute to the development and prosperity of all parties, strengthening mutual trust and good-neighborly and friendly relations.

The statement is aimed at improving the diversified mechanism for resolving international commercial disputes, strengthening international criminal and judicial cooperation in combating violence, terrorism, drugs, corruption, cybercrime, etc., carrying out international exchanges and interactions in the field of environmental justice, using information technology to improve judicial capabilities and standards, as well as expanding the judicial exchange platform and other aspects on which the participants reached consensus, chinapeace.gov.cn reports.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aslanbek Mergaliyev, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic Zamirbek Bazarbekov, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Tajikistan Shohiyon Shermukhammad, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyar Islamov. Judge of the Supreme Court of Turkmenistan Charyguly Atayev made an online address. Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China Zhang Jun made a keynote speech.

It was noted that this meeting was held in the context of implementing the agreements of the heads of state at the China-Central Asia summit and promoting the spirit of the Silk Road.

In addition to representatives of the judicial community, the meeting was attended by the heads of the Secretariat of the China-Central Asia Mechanism and diplomats of the relevant countries accredited in China.
