 Strategies for Higher education institutions: Pathways to success in QS and THE rankings

An international seminar in a hybrid format within the framework of the European Union Erasmus+ program was held at the Alisher Navoi State University of Uzbek Language and Literature in Tashkent. The seminar was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan and is dedicated to the topic of participation of higher education institutions in the international rankings QS and THE.

The seminar was attended by professors and teachers, as well as students of universities of Turkmenistan, representatives of the National Erasmus+ Program in Uzbekistan, employees of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan. They explored the possibilities and ways of including universities in international educational rankings. The participants learned about ways to increase the activity of universities in order to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and about the positive impact of including universities in the QS and THE ratings.

Representatives of Turkmenistan shared their experience and identified new areas of cooperation to strengthen the positions of the highest in international rankings. Such cooperation will contribute to the further development of Turkmenistan's education system at the international level, increase students' awareness in the international educational environment and actively participate in international educational competitions.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan Shahrukh Daliyev addressed the participants of the seminar.

Ellen Hazelkorn, a professor at the University of Dublin, made a presentation on the importance of international university rankings, the criteria of rating systems and their shortcomings, and also shared her rich experience in improving the quality of education in universities.

This workshop was part of the European Union Technical Assistance Program (TAM) aimed at providing guidance and support for the modernization of the quality of education in higher education institutions. As part of this program, TAM strives to achieve its goals through various events, seminars, conferences and meetings. As a result of the discussions, the Turkmen representatives explored new opportunities for cooperation in this area and outlined specific goals to improve the quality of education and include universities in international rankings. In addition, the results of the seminar opened the way for new initiatives and projects that will have a positive impact on the further development of the education system.
