 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with US Ambassador Elizabeth Rood

The Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan held a meeting with US Ambassador Elizabeth Rood on Tuesday, 20 August. Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Gurbanov held the meeting with the US diplomat.

During the exchange of views on key areas of bilateral partnership, the sides stated their mutual commitment to deepening ties in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, the Foreign Ministry press service reported.

A positive assessment was given to the format of Turkmen-American political consultations for discussing issues of mutual interest and coordinating joint actions to develop bilateral relations.

The interlocutors agreed to maintain regular contacts in order to strengthen cooperation.

New United States Ambassador Elizabeth Rood, who succeeded Matthew Climow, arrived in Turkmenistan on 24 July and began her work in the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat. Ambassador Rood was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan on July 15 and presented her credentials to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on 31 July.

Her previous assignments include Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow; Faculty Advisor in the U.S. Army War College; Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi; and Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul. Ambassador Rood speaks Russian, French, German, Pashto, Dari, Georgian and Turkmen, according to the website of the U.S. diplomatic mission.
