 Ashgabat and Kabul discussed readiness to work on the TAPI project in Afghanistan

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, during an online meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar, said that Turkmenistan is ready to begin work on the TAPI project in Afghanistan in order to develop political and economic relations.

According to a press release from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, issues of economic, transit, trade and political cooperation between the two countries were also discussed at the videoconference meeting, TOLOnews reports.

The press release also mentions that Abdul Ghani Baradar has received an invitation to visit Turkmenistan at an appropriate time.

Abdul Ghani Baradar said at the meeting that the Islamic Emirate, while emphasizing an economic-oriented foreign policy, is primarily focused on regional connectivity and needs cooperation with Turkmenistan to achieve this goal.

Deputy Minister of Economy Abdul Latif Nazari told TOLOnews about this virtual meeting: “The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan the issues of expanding railways, energy development and the TAPI project, and a decision was made to strengthen economic, trade and transit cooperation between the two countries."
