Paris Olympic medalists take victory selfie thanks to Samsung

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, South Korean company Samsung will provide Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition smartphones for use on the medal podium during the competition in Paris 2024. This will allow athletes to capture and share their memories with a unique victory selfie.

Previously, personal items, including phones, were not allowed on the playing field, so athletes could not take a photo when receiving their medals.

A victory selfie is permitted during the awards ceremony for individual medalists and teams of no more than two athletes. At the same time, each of the medalists is given instructions on how and when to take pictures. Samsung's proprietary technology will sort athletes' selfies by sport and then upload them to the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Athlete365 platform.

The special Olympic version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 smartphone, which every Paris Olympic participant will receive, comes with a full range of exclusive services and useful applications. In particular, athletes will be able to follow the Games schedule and easily travel to Olympic venues or enjoy the official mobile game of the Olympics.

In addition, each smartphone is equipped with an eSIM with the ability to use 100 GB of free data on 5G networks provided by the Orange operator.

“We are honored to give athletes the opportunity to experience the powerful and smart Galaxy Z Flip6 first-hand before its official launch,” said Stephanie Choi, head of marketing for Samsung Electronics' mobile technology division.

Samsung became a Worldwide Olympic Partner ahead of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Since then, Samsung's innovative mobile technologies have transformed the way the Olympic community, athletes and fans around the world communicate and share information.
