In 2024, 100 freight trains set off on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan route
02.08.2024 | 11:51 |Since the beginning of 2024, the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan transport corridor has demonstrated impressive results, recording 100 freight train departures, which is 103.94% more than last year. This is reported by the Xinhua News Agency with reference to the Urumqi branch of the Chinese Railways Corporation.
This multimodal transport corridor is an important logistics highway passing through China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, and includes mixed cargo transportation, which is carried out both by highways and railways. The route starts from the Northern Kashgar Station in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwestern China. Containers are delivered by rail to this station, then continue by road through the Irkeshtam checkpoint to reach Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, and then other countries.
The growth of trade cooperation between China and the countries of Western and Central Asia is especially noticeable within the framework of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. In 2024, the volume of goods transported by rail to Kashgar for transit increased significantly, exceeding 100 thousand tons, which is 53.3 thousand tons more than last year.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan multimodal transport corridor was opened in 2020, and since then the number of freight train departures from various regions of China, such as the Greater Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay area, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Sichuan and Jiangsu provinces, has been constantly growing. Initially, more than 30 types of goods, such as clothing and metal tools, were transported along this route. Currently, the range of transported goods has expanded to more than 300 types, including cars powered by new energy sources and spare parts.
