President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the commissioning ceremony of the Tejen-Mary section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, held on Wednesday, April 17. This major transport project will complement the map of trade cargo flows with a new convenient route and will significantly reduce transit times through the territory of Turkmenistan.

The head of state arrived in Mary on Wednesday morning, from where he went by helicopter to the opening site of the new highway. Here, Serdar Berdimuhamedov made a speech to the audience.

The President recalled that the Ashgabat-Tejen section of the Ashgabat- Turkmenabat highway opened at the end of October 2021. And now the second section from Tejen to Mary is being launched, along which infrastructure facilities have been built for the convenience of passengers and drivers.

The total length of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway is 600 kilometers. It runs through the territory of the Ahal and Mary regions and will connect Ashgabat with the Lebap region, providing high-speed transportation of passengers and cargo.

“We will continue to be constructively engaged in the construction of highways in the country and the formation of international transport corridors,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.

He also said that on this day a Maternal and Child Health Center and a cottage complex of 59 two-story houses were opening in the city of Mary and announced that about 200 new buses would be given to the Mary region as a gift.

Then, representatives of international structures spoke at the ceremony and presented certificates confirming the quality of construction of the Tejen- Mary section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway. Thus, from the Ankara branch of the Japanese company NEC Telekommunikasion Ltd. the project was awarded a certificate for the implementation of innovative technologies, from the Board of Directors of the French "Grenobloise D'Elektronique et D'Automatismes (GEA)" - for compliance with high standards of video surveillance and payment systems, from the Austrian "Vienna Consulting Engineers ZT GmbH (VCE)" - immediately three certificates: for compliance with European guidelines for technical approval and high-speed road construction standards, compliance with ISO 9001 quality control standards and compliance with methodological manuals for German road construction projects.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov got behind the wheel of a car and drove along the highway, stopping at a gas station and a passenger service parking lot. Along the way, the head of state inspected other infrastructure facilities.

The autobahn consists of six lanes. The width of the roadway is 34.5 meters, the carriageway on each side is 11.25 meters, and the traffic zone is 3.75 meters. Adjacent to it is a strip for protection from emergency situations, ditches and metal fences that prevent animals and people from entering the highway.

Along the route there are parking lots and rest areas for drivers and passengers, shops and cafes, a gas station, telephone points for urgent calls and assistance, traffic police posts with surveillance cameras, maintenance points, road maintenance services, hydraulic structures, eco-ducts for a safe crossing of animals and transportation of agricultural machinery.

Traffic is managed by a system that collects, stores and transmits all traffic data to the traffic control service. Reports from the weather station are also sent here, including parameters such as air humidity, visibility, etc.

To order of the general contractor “AOZT Turkmen Autobahn”, the project for the construction of the highway with the improvement of the adjacent territory was carried out by “Altyn Nesil”.

The construction of the 600-kilometer long Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, started on January 24, 2019. Work on its construction is carried out in three stages - Ashgabat-Tedzhen (203 kilometers), Tejen-Mary (109 kilometers) and Mary-Turkmenabat (288 kilometers).
