New COVID-19 Law Laboratory was created

The World Health Organization, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, has established a COVID-19 Law Lab.

This initiative aims to collect and share regulatory legal documents from more than 190 countries. It will help states create and implement a solid legal framework to combat the pandemic.

The COVID-19 Law Laboratory is a database of legislative measures taken by countries in response to the pandemic. These include isolation and quarantine actions, epidemiological disease surveillance, and legal measures related to wearing masks, social distancing, and access to medicines and vaccines.

Well-considered laws help set up strong healthcare systems and implement measures to create healthier and safer workplaces. These are also essential for the effective implementation of the WHO International Health Regulations for infection surveillance and prevention.

  • A strong regulatory and legal framework is essential for countries to combat COVID-19, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus said. - As health protection requires global actions, legal mechanics gave to be aligned with international obligations to respond to existing and emerging human health threats. Today the creation of a strong legislative framework in the field of healthcare is becoming more important than ever.

The laboratory will also contain research findings on various legal mechanisms related to COVID-19.
