Global demand for Turkish TV series has increased by 183% over the past three years, which is an undoubted success of Turkish cinema. This was stated by head of the Communications Department of the Turkish Presidential Administration, Fahrettin Altun, speaking at the premiere of the new series of the TRT 1 channel “Mehmed: Sultan of the Conquerors.”

“Today, about a billion people around the world watch Turkish TV series, and this makes a big difference. When we look at this aspect, we actually come across real success. It should also be said that these created works are our attempt to resist the system of cultural exploitation, global imperialism and attempts at cultural corruption. In this regard, I really attach great importance to these initiatives,” the head of the Communications Department said.

Altun noted that the series is a very large project that requires serious investment, and also expressed the hope that thanks to the project under consideration, a serious contribution will be made to the popular culture industry, cultural accumulation and publishing life in Turkey.

“The plot of the series is based on a very, very important character in terms of the history of civilizations and world history. It demonstrates the image of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and his achievements, in particular the conquest of Istanbul,” Altun noted.

According to him, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror was a brilliant ruler who opened and ended an era in the history of civilizations, developing a system of government that allowed the Ottoman state to achieve serious successes in many areas over the years.

Altun noted that the series “Mehmed: Sultan of the Conquerors” focuses on the period during which the rise of the Ottoman state began.

“If we look at the life of Sultan Mehmed Fatih while watching the series, we will see that that period actually has many similarities with today, which in turn gives significance to this series,” Altun noted.

The head of the Communications Department also noted the importance of the language of art and cinema.

“The Turkish film industry is really developing from time to time. Turkey is making very serious investments in the development of its brand,” he emphasized and added that this film will make a significant contribution to the development of the Turkish brand and expand its presence at the international level.
