On Thursday, February 15, China's chief legislator Zhao Leji called on the member states of the Friends of Neutrality Group to jointly promote the development of the global governance system in a more fair and equitable direction,

The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress made this statement, speaking via video link at the first meeting of parliamentary leaders of the Friends of Neutrality Group member countries at the invitation of Dunyagozel Gulmanova, Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Xinhua reports.

Since its establishment more than three years ago, the Friends of Neutrality Group has committed itself to promoting international peace, security and sustainable development and has become a useful platform for practicing multilateralism and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, Zhao Leji said.

Highly appreciating the important and constructive role of Turkmenistan in international and regional affairs as a permanently neutral state, whose status is enshrined by the United Nations, as well as as the initiator of the creation of the group, Zhao said that China is ready to work with the members of the group to promote the effective implementation of global initiatives.

Zhao also called on all parties to firmly support the international system and order based on the UN and international law, practice genuine multilateralism and increase the representation and voice of developing countries in international affairs.

Noting that China and Turkmenistan are good friends, partners and brothers, Zhao said that bilateral relations have been constantly improving since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 32 years ago.

China-Turkmenistan relations have great potential for development, Zhao Leji said, adding that China is ready to unite with Turkmenistan to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two countries, continue to firmly support each other, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and enrich cultural and interpersonal exchanges.
