Ambassador Ferrari: Turkmenistan is a growing country, and its importance for Italy is also growing

"Turkmenistan is a growing country, and its importance for our country is also growing," Italian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Luigi Ferrari told the Italian ANS news agency on the sidelines of the Ambassadors' conference in Farnesina (as the Italian Foreign Ministry is called by its location - in the Palace of Farnesin).

"To explain the reason for this," the ambassador clarified, "it is enough to give one figure - 50 trillion cubic meters of natural gas reserves calculated."

This puts Turkmenistan among the three or four countries in the world in terms of reserves, says Ferrari, and, therefore, "universal interest in this country is very great," but we start "from a position of advantage, because the flag of our company, Eni, has been based in the country for 15 years."

The Italian ambassador also praised Turkmenistan's foreign policy position, as "it is a country that adopted the principle of neutrality 28 years ago" and "does not take sides in military alliances."

"Obviously," adds Ferrari, "given the regional context, his (Turkmenistan's) policy represents a factor of stability, an extremely positive factor from our point of view."

The 16th Conference of Italian Ambassadors to the World is taking place in Farnesina on December 18-19. It is attended by more than 130 heads of Italian diplomatic missions abroad. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, British

Foreign Minister David Cameron and other world politicians addressed the participants of the meeting with a video message.

The conference is an opportunity to reflect on the role and tools of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, including taking into account the presidency of this country in the G7 in 2024.
