 Turkmen chess player Lala Shohradova entered the top 10 at the World Championship

Turkmen chess player, FIDE master Lala Shohradova entered the top 10 at the World Championship among girls under 18, held in the Italian city of Montesilvano. Having scored 7.5 points out of 11 possible, Lala took 8th place and was able to raise her Elo rating by 180 points.

86 athletes participated in the category among girls under 18, and the gold medal was won by an athlete from Azerbaijan, FIDE master Ayyan Allahverdiyeva.

The second best result among our athletes was shown by Lala's sister, FIDE master candidate Leyla Shohradova, who kept her chances for a medal until the last round. Having been defeated in the last two meetings, Leila took only 12th place with 7 points. However, this result is a success for our athlete, as in the starting rating list among 105 athletes, Leila was listed on the 45th line. Leila was also able to raise her Elo rating by 165 points.

Our third athlete, who performed in the category among girls under 14, Mahri Agamuradova also finished the tournament on a positive note, taking 17th place among 125 participants. Mahri scored 7 points and raised her Elo rating by 130 points.

All 3 of our athletes entered the top 20 strongest in the world, and this shows the growth of youth women's chess in Turkmenistan.

Among young men, a successful result was shown by a schoolboy Amanmuhammet Hommadov, who performed in the under-18 category, who scored 6 points and raised his Elo rating by 120 points. Recall that one of the elite grandmasters from Russia Volodar Murzin also performed in the category of Amanmuhammet, who eventually took second place. The first place went to another Russian grandmaster Grebnev.

Now Amanmuhammet and Lala are preparing for the upcoming West Asian Junior Under-20 Championship.

766 participants from 92 countries took part in the World Championship.
