60 medals will be awarded at the Kurash Wrestling World Championship in Ashgabat
26.11.2023 | 23:30 |The opening ceremony of the 14th Kurash Wrestling World Championship took place in Ashgabat on Saturday evening, November 25. The venue was a martial arts sports complex with a capacity of 5,000 seats on the territory of the Olympic Campus.
The celebration began with the removal of the flags of the participating countries of the world championship. The address of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov was read out, who expressed confidence that the championship, becoming an important event in the history of world sports, will make a great contribution to improving the skills of Kurash athletes, popularizing the Olympic movement, strengthening peace, friendship and international sports cooperation.
Then the National Anthem of Turkmenistan was performed and the flag of our country was raised.
President of the International Association of Kurash (IAK) Haidar Farman, addressing the audience, stressed that the Turkmen side has created the most favorable conditions for holding this tournament, including excellent sports facilities. On behalf of IAK, he expressed deep gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the national leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for their great support and significant contribution to the development of the Kurash struggle, TDH reports.
Then a video about Turkmenistan was shown, after which artists and dance groups performed with thematic numbers.
The Kurash World Championship has started and on November 27-28 will determine the best wrestlers in seven men's and eight women's weight categories. 243 athletes from more than 50 countries will compete for 60 medals - 15 gold, 15 silver and 30 bronze.
