Turkmenistan has created an Inter-sectoral Commission to reduce methane emissions
03.06.2023 | 02:02 |President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on the establishment of an Intersectoral commission to reduce methane emissions during a Cabinet meeting on Friday, TDH reports.
This decision is in line with Turkmenistan's National Strategy on Climate Change and monitoring the effectiveness of systematic reduction of greenhouse gases that occur in various sectors of the economy.
Back in November 2021, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the UN COP26 summit in the Scottish city of Glasgow, told that Turkmenistan pays special attention at the national level to reducing methane emissions, and in this regard welcomes the initiative "Global Commitment on Methane".
At the same time, it was noted that Turkmenistan plans to achieve zero growth in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and in the long term – to significantly reduce emissions annually, both at the expense of its own financial resources and with the technical and financial support of international organizations.
