 Turkmen-Finnish negotiations at the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were held in Ashgabat

Turkmen-Finnish talks at the level of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries were held in Ashgabat on Thursday, June 1. The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev, the Finnish side was headed by Maria Elina Liivala, Director General of the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Finnish Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ikka Ryasyanen also took part in the meeting.

"The sides discussed topical issues of the development of relations between the two countries in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields," the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

The diplomats expressed interest in further cooperation within the framework of international organizations, in particular the UN, the EU and the OSCE, noted the importance of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation, emphasizing the importance of the establishment of the parliamentary friendship group in May this year. The parties spoke in favor of strengthening the legal framework of bilateral cooperation.

Attention was paid to the expansion of trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and Finland. In this context, it is proposed to intensify contacts between the business communities of the two countries.

"The diplomats also discussed the possibilities of increasing cooperation in the humanitarian field, including educational and scientific contacts," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan added.

Turkmenistan and the Republic of Finland established diplomatic relations on June 10, 1992 and this year celebrate their 31st anniversary.
