On May 28, the Russian Ethnographic Museum in St. Petersburg will host a large-scale holiday "Carpet World" dedicated to the Day of the Turkmen Carpet, celebrated annually in Turkmenistan on the last Sunday of May.

The festive event will be held within the framework of the ethnofestival "Russia in patterns". On this day, the museum will acquaint visitors not only with magnificent Turkmen carpets, but also with carpet products from Russia, Moldova, the Baltic region countries and the masterpieces of the Carpet Pantry of the Russian Ethnographic Museum, the Culture of St. Petersburg portal reports.

Author's excursions, master classes and informational lectures were prepared for the guests of the holiday. For example, the tour "Carpets and carpet products of the Caucasus and Central Asia" will tell visitors about the most important role of carpet weaving in the culture of the peoples of the Caucasus and Central Asia. Carpet making in these regions has always been a common household craft, and today this craft has reached the level of high art.

A rich and varied lecture program on the preservation of the beauty of carpets will tell you about the rules for storing carpets and products and introduce you to the unique equipment for processing exhibits in the room of a disinsection chamber, access to which is usually closed to visitors.

No less interesting will be the story of the formation of the carpet pantry of the Russian Ethnographic Museum. Guests will see rare exhibits and the most interesting handmade carpets from the point of view of manufacturing techniques and learn about the main carpet-making centers in the world. The visual range will be complemented by rare photographs from the museum's photo archive, which depict the processes of carpet weaving and interiors of the early twentieth century, decorated with carpet canvases.
