Turkmen students will take part in the Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in Kazakhstan

A team from Turkmenistan will take part in the 57th International Mendeleev Olympiad of Schoolchildren in Chemistry (MMO-57), which will be held in Kazakhstan from May 1-6, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the organizing committee of the event.

The 2023 Olympiad is being held in Astana in a self-presence format. Teams from more than 20 countries have confirmed their participation in the prestigious tournament. Turkmenistan is among the traditional participants of the MMO, and schoolchildren always return home with medals of various degrees.

Other permanent participants include the national teams of Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Croatia and other countries. This year, for the first time, Brazil applied to participate in the tournament.

The main events of the Olympiad will be held in Astana. The competition platform will be the laboratories and auditoriums of Nazarbayev University. The technical equipment of the university fully meets all the conditions of the chemical competition.

The International Mendeleev Olympiad became the successor of the All-Union Olympiad of Schoolchildren in Chemistry and usually lasts five to six days. It consists of three rounds: two theoretical and one practical.

The difficulties of the first stage correspond to the program of specialized chemical classes. In the second round, the contestants solve higher-level problems from five sections of chemistry: organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry, as well as life sciences.

The practical part of the competition lasts five hours and "tests" the ability and skills of schoolchildren to work in a chemical laboratory: they will conduct chemical analysis of substances, as well as synthesis according to the proposed methodology.

Winners and prize-winners receive bronze, silver and gold medals. The rest of the participants received traditional diplomas and valuable gifts.

As you know, in 2009, the 43rd Mendeleev Olympiad of Schoolchildren in Chemistry was held in Ashgabat. Then the winners of national chemistry Olympiads and teachers from more than 15 countries took part in the competition.
