Preparation of the Fourth National Message on climate change discussed in Turkmenistan
14.04.2023 | 13:14 |The preparation of the Fourth National Communication (NC4) and the Initial Biennial Report (BR1) of Turkmenistan for the successful implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was discussed during a working meeting of representatives of the country's line ministries and departments.
The meeting within the framework of the project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated development of green cities in Ashgabat and Avaza", which is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and UNDP, was also attended by employees of the Ashgabat City Hall, specialists of international projects.
Thus, the participants got acquainted with the new methodology for the inventory of greenhouse gas emissions, the results of the inventory in agriculture, industry and the energy sector of Turkmenistan. They were also provided with information on "the possibilities of phased implementation of the MRV system (Measurement, Reporting and Verification) in Turkmenistan for the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement.
For Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the existing MRV system includes the preparation and submission of national communications every four years and Biennial Reports (BR) every two years. At the same time, an important element of the mechanism is the creation of a national MRV system for nationally acceptable actions to prevent climate change and conducting MRV in order to obtain reasonable results on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
