BP is building the world's first offshore remote-controlled platform in Azerbaijan

The world's first BP offshore platform capable of remote control is being built in Azerbaijan. This was announced by BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gary Jones.

On Tuesday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Gary Jones took part in a ceremony to symbolically send the upper modules of the Central East Azeri platform into the sea. "The $6 billion project includes a new offshore platform and other installations with a daily production capacity of up to 100,000 barrels of oil. It is predicted that up to 300 million barrels of oil will be produced during the operational period of the project as a whole," Jones said.

Director of the Central East Azeri project, Neil Philips, informed Aliyev that, as part of the remote control principle, a main control room was designed to control all operations from the offshore platform, including the operation of gas wells, initial separation and transportation of produced crude oil and gas.
