EDB intends to invest at least $400 million in the Central Asian water and energy complex
27.03.2023 | 10:10 |In the next 3 years, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) intends to invest at least $400 million in the water and energy complex of Central Asia. This was stated by the Chairman of the EDB Board Nikolay Podguzov at the UN Conference on Water Resources that ended in New York.
"According to the EDB estimates, the successful solution of existing problems in this area can lead to an additional increase in the growth rate of regional GDP by 1.5% per year. It will also increase the safety of agricultural production, which is a critical factor for ensuring regional food security," Podguzov said, noting that the water and energy complex of Central Asia is one of the Bank's main priorities.
According to Podguzov, the problem of rational use and distribution of water and energy resources requires joint actions. He drew attention to the role of regional water and energy organizations, as well as multilateral financial institutions that could act as a common link in this process.
"I believe that our joint efforts will successfully solve long—term water problems in Central Asia," he concluded.
Currently, the Bank is implementing the investment megaproject "Water and Energy Complex of Central Asia", which provides analytical and expert assessment, as well as forecasts of effective ways of integrated development of this industry. Analysts of the financial institution have already conducted a number of studies, the results of which are reflected in the reports "Investments in the water and energy complex of Central Asia" and "Regulation of the water and energy complex of Central Asia".
