Microsoft releases windows 11 25H2 preview

Microsoft has released the initial preview build of Windows 11 25H2, now accessible to participants in the Windows Insider Program. The stable version of this operating system is anticipated to be released in the autumn.

Windows 11 25H2 is built upon the same platform as 24H2, and both versions will utilize a unified servicing branch. This approach significantly streamlines the update process for users: transitioning from Windows 11 24H2 to 25H2 will require the same amount of time as installing a standard cumulative update. System files will not be overwritten, and the entire process, encompassing download, installation, and reboot, will only take a few minutes. This represents a substantial departure from the update process from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2, which necessitated the overwriting of numerous system components and consumed more time.

Due to the shared platform, Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2 are expected to receive similar new features. This strategy is not unprecedented for Microsoft, as a comparable situation was observed in 2023 with the 23H2 update. Regarding support, Windows 11 25H2 will receive 36 months of support for enterprise customers and 24 months for the consumer segment.

Currently, the preview version of Windows 11 25H2 does not yet include new features or substantial innovations; the list of changes is identical to the latest preview version of Windows 11 24H2. However, according to sources, exclusive features intended solely for Windows 11 25H2 are expected to begin appearing in test builds in the coming weeks. The stable release of the operating system is projected for September - October of this year.
