The President of Uzbekistan launched the construction of "New Tashkent"

"New Tashkent" will be spread over an area of 20,000 hectares between the Chirchik and Karasu rivers. The symbolic laying of the stone of the future town, in which about a million people can live, was made on Saturday by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The General Plan of Tashkent until 2045 was developed with the participation of specialists from the UK, Turkey, China, and Singapore. In the project, for the first time in Uzbekistan, a number of smart urbanization solutions will be introduced - an environmentally friendly transport system based on electric buses and metro will be organized. Roads in the area will be built to provide maximum freedom for pedestrians and cyclists. 14 tunnels and 7 bridges will be built across the Chirchik and Karasu rivers for vehicles.

The first “triple generation” station in Central Asia will also appear in “New Tashkent”, which will supply energy to the future town. And at the first stage, the project provides for the construction of housing for 60 thousand people, 30 schools, 20 kindergartens, 5 clinics and a multiprofile hospital.

Also, the campuses of the New Uzbekistan University, the buildings of the national library, theater, creative schools, trade and service facilities will “grow” in the new town.

The construction of a new district is dictated by demographic necessity. Almost 5 million people live and work in the Uzbek capital today, and their number will only grow in the coming years. The chosen place wins in terms of proximity to the current city, climate and air conditions, the president said, speaking at the ceremony.
