The UN Secretary General urged not to ignore the climate crisis at the economic forum in Davos

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged world leaders not to ignore the climate crisis, but to take tough political decisions to overcome it, the UN news service reports.

In particular, the head of the organization recalled the commitments of developed countries on climate finance in the amount of $ 100 billion to support developing countries.

"Every week brings a new scary climate story. Greenhouse gas emissions are at record levels and continue to grow. Without further action, we are moving towards a temperature increase of 2.8 degrees," he said.

Antonio Guterres also called on representatives of the private sector to step up their efforts to combat climate change and comply with the UN-supported zero emissions guidelines. He said that without the massive participation of the private sector, it will be impossible to move from billions to trillions that are needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The 53rd meeting of the World Economic Forum opened in Davos on January 16. The motto of the forum this year is "Cooperation in a fragmented world". According to the organizers, Davos will be visited by a record number of participants – more than 2.7 thousand people. The forum will last until January 20.
