A project to create a Turkmen-Uzbek border trade zone is being promoted

The promotion of the project to create a Turkmen-Uzbek border trade zone – a joint shopping center was the topic of a report by Deputy Prime Minister Batyr Atdayev at an expanded meeting of the Government of Turkmenistan on Sunday.

The Deputy Prime Minister presented to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposals on the location and perimeter of this zone, where all conditions for wholesale and retail trade will be created.

Over the past 5 years, the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan has grown 5 times and by the end of 2021 exceeded $ 902 million. At the same time, the import of goods and services from Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan increased by more than half, and the export of Turkmen goods and services to the neighboring country – by 1.3 times.

In 2022, the trade turnover between the two countries continues to grow, which brings them closer to their goal of achieving a mutual trade indicator of $ 1 billion.

During the Forum of Regions held on July 13, 2022 in Bukhara, the parties agreed to accelerate the launch of border trade zones "Lebap – Bukhara" and "Dashoguz – Khorezm".

According to analysts, Tashkent and Ashgabat can claim to be drivers of regional cooperation while maintaining and further developing active political and economic cooperation, a new chapter in which opens with the upcoming visit of the Uzbek leader to Turkmenistan next week.
