Turkmenistan has discovered 149 gas and gas condensate fields with reserves of more than 4.97 trillion cubic meters of gas. This, with reference to the Turkmen media, is reported by the Russian agency of economic information Prime.

“149 gas and gas condensate fields with reserves of 4,970,768 million cubic meters have been discovered in Turkmenistan, including 139 fields on land and 10 fields on the Caspian shelf,” the report says.

It notes that "54 deposits with a reserve of more than 2.6 billion cubic meters are under development, 11 deposits are prepared for development, 73 deposits are under exploration, 11 are in conservation."

Prime also emphasizes that the state concerns “Turkmengaz”, “Turkmenneft” and the State Corporation “Turkmengeology” are producing gas in the country, with more than 80% of the total gas production coming from “Turkmengaz”.

In terms of natural gas reserves, Turkmenistan is among the top four countries in the world along with Russia, Iran and Qatar. China is the largest buyer of Turkmen gas.
