 Turkmenistan takes part in the conference of the ECO Parliamentary Assembly in Islamabad

Speaker of the lower chamber of the parliament of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova is taking part in the second conference of the ECO Parliamentary Assembly, which opened on June 1, in Islamabad.

The meeting is dedicated to the role of the parliaments of the member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation in promoting regional ties, trade, tourism and economic partnership. The PAECO conference is attended by the heads of parliaments of Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Speakers from Iran and Turkmenistan participate in the forum via video communication.

President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi spoke at the opening of the PAECO conference. “Your voice will be heard on the global platform only if you are economically strong and stable” he said, stressing the need for viable regional integration through an open trade market for sustainable development, Pakistani media reported.

In his virtual address, ECO Secretary General Dr. Hadi Suleimanpour spoke in favor of a strong regional financial system, as well as the creation of banks and a regional payment system to support trade activities in the ECO region. He said that building regional tourism networks and supporting the ECO's annual budget could help to ensure the realization of the dream of development and prosperity.

Chairman of the Majlis of the Turkmen Parliament Gulshat Mammedova, speaking via video communication, suggested intensifying joint efforts and finding long-term solutions to pressing problems of the region.

The conference also discusses the role and responsibilities of parliaments in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, strengthening peace and harmony among peoples, countries and confessions.
