Tehran hosted the first ministerial summit on transit cooperation between Iran and five Central Asian countries – Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the leadership of the transport sector of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran itself. On October 8, a preliminary meeting of the responsible persons of each of the parties was held, at which a joint document on regional transport convergence was agreed.

“Kazakhstan has outlined big plans for the formation of cross-border hubs that will increase the potential of the North-South and East-West transport corridors. These are the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk, the Khorgos dry port, the Central Asia International Center for Industrial Cooperation and others,” Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov said at the plenary session of the Second Caspian Economic Forum in Moscow.
