 Turkmenistan Participated in the Meeting of National Commissions for UNESCO in Samarkand

For the first time in a long time, the 43rd UNESCO General Conference is being held outside UNESCO Headquarters—in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. On October 29, the 12th Interregional Meeting of National Commissions for UNESCO of the organization's member states was held as part of this conference. Chinar Rustamova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, represented Turkmenistan.

The meeting was attended by UNESCO Assistant Directors-General, heads of relevant departments of this international organization, and representatives at the level of Executive Secretaries of National Commissions for UNESCO of the member states.

The opening remarks were made by Xing Qu, First Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Assistant Director-General for Africa and External Relations of UNESCO, and Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, Chairperson of the Foundation for the Development of Arts and Culture of Uzbekistan, and Head of the Creative Economy and Tourism Department of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The event included four thematic sessions: "Empowering Youth to Promote Peace, Human Rights, Social Inclusion, and Education for Sustainable Development," "Connecting Cultures and Communities in the Digital Age: Heritage, Sustainable Tourism, and the Silk Road," "National Commissions as Strategic Allies: Collaborating on Strategy, Programs, and Partnerships," and "Sharing Best Practices in Building Inclusive Societies and Advancing Science for Sustainable Development."

During the third session, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO delivered a presentation, highlighting the Commission's priority areas of work and the importance of international cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It was emphasized that Turkmenistan's active participation in UNESCO contributes to strengthening mutual understanding among peoples and advancing shared goals in education, science, culture, and communication.
