Turkmen-Iraqi Political Consultations were Held in Baghdad, and Economic Contacts were Discussed
21.10.2025 | 16:36 |A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmed Gurbanov, paid a working visit to Baghdad, Iraq, on October 20–21. The purpose of the visit was to conduct political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
During talks with Deputy Foreign Minister of Iraq Mohammed Bahr Al-Ulum, the parties exchanged views on key areas of the bilateral agenda, ranging from political, diplomatic, trade, and economic cooperation to cultural and humanitarian ties.
The diplomats reaffirmed the importance of high-level contacts as the main impetus for developing cooperation. In this context, the parties discussed issues related to the International Conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality, which will be held in Ashgabat this December.
During the consultations, particular attention was paid to expanding the legal framework for cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iraq.
The diplomats noted the importance of strengthening interparliamentary ties, particularly through the creation of parliamentary friendship groups, and emphasized the need for active interaction within international organizations, including the UN.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation also held a meeting with President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, Abdul Razzaq Al-Zuhairi.
At this meeting, the significant prospects for expanding trade and economic relations were discussed in detail. The parties agreed on the importance of establishing direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries and the need for active participation in international economic forums, exhibitions, and business meetings held in both capitals.
