The Port of Turkmenbashi in the Context of Green Logistics Opportunities and OSCE Initiatives in 2026
15.10.2025 | 01:25 |Turkmenistan's recent successes in developing climate-resilient transport infrastructure were the key topic of a presentation at a meeting of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee. Seyitguly Bayseidov, Head of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, presented the country's comprehensive approach to sustainable connectivity and transport modernization in Vienna.
Turkmenistan is positioning itself as a key transit and logistics hub in the Caspian region, actively integrating digitalization and clean energy into its transport system. This work is being carried out in accordance with Turkmenistan's National Climate Change Strategy.
During the presentation, special attention was paid to cooperation with the OSCE within the framework of the "Promoting the Development of Green Ports" project. It is this partnership that has enabled the Port of Turkmenbashi to achieve significant success. For example, the port became the first in the Eastern Caspian to receive the international EcoPort certificate, issued in accordance with the standards of the European Sea Ports Organization. This achievement is the result of concrete steps in energy efficiency, wastewater treatment, emission reduction and biodiversity conservation.
Turkmenistan's commitment to implementing the outcomes of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), including the Avaza Political Declaration and Action Program for 2024–2034, which call for the creation of greener, smarter, and more inclusive transport systems, was also noted.
During the event, Bayseidov discussed further cooperation with Ambassador Bakyt Dzhusupov, Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities. The parties outlined new opportunities in the areas of green logistics, digital trade systems, and sustainable transport corridors, which will be implemented as part of upcoming OSCE initiatives in 2026.
Turkmenistan's active participation confirmed its role in the regional partnership, promoting a safe, innovative, and environmentally responsible transport future throughout the OSCE region.
