 Irish Ambassador Accredited in Ashgabat – Claire Brosnan Presents Her Credentials

Ashgabat, September 30 | ORIENT. Speaker of the Mejlis, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, accepted the credentials of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ireland to Turkmenistan, Claire Brosnan.

In his diplomatic letter, Irish President Michael Daniel Higgins noted that Ms. Brosnan's appointment reflects the desire to strengthen friendly relations between Ireland and Turkmenistan. He emphasized her high personal qualities and expressed confidence that the Ambassador will fulfill her mission with dignity, conveying his sincere wishes for the well-being and prosperity of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, Speaker of the National Parliament of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment and wished her success in her work to further develop bilateral relations.

For her part, Claire Brosnan conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the Irish leadership to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. She also learned about the structure of parliament, the work to modernize legislation, and key areas of Turkmenistan's domestic and foreign policy.

During the exchange of views, both sides expressed interest in intensifying cooperation and strengthening Turkmenistan's ties with the European Union through reputable international organizations.

The Ambassador emphasized that she was honored to represent Ireland in Turkmenistan and was ready to make every effort to develop mutually beneficial dialogue between the countries in various fields.

That same day, the Irish Ambassador (resident in Moscow) was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. During the meeting, Ms. Brosnan and Deputy Foreign Minister Serdar Muhammetdurdiyev discussed the state of bilateral cooperation in political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian areas.

It was noted that Turkmenistan and Ireland already have experience interacting within international organizations, primarily the UN, including co-sponsoring several General Assembly resolutions. In this context, the importance of continuing cooperation in multilateral forums was emphasized.

Particular attention was paid to expanding the legal framework for cooperation, as well as strengthening contacts between the scientific and educational institutions of the two countries.

The Irish side was invited to actively participate in upcoming international events marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.
