WhatsApp introduces limits on messages sent to unknown contacts

Messenger WhatsApp has begun testing a new mechanism aimed at reducing unwanted messages and spam. The platform plans to limit the number of messages that users and business accounts can send to contacts who have not responded to them.

Originally designed as a tool for personal communication, WhatsApp has evolved into a key platform for business interaction with audiences and for the functioning of communities. This transformation has led to users receiving a much larger volume of unsolicited messages, making it harder to track truly important notifications.

In the near future, all outgoing messages sent to unfamiliar contacts will be counted toward a new monthly limit.

An important detail: this restriction is lifted as soon as the sender receives at least one reply to a previous message. This encourages meaningful, two-way conversations. The messenger will notify users and companies when they are approaching their set limit to prevent automatic account blocking.

The new mechanism is primarily aimed at curbing mass messaging and spam. According to TechCrunch, it should not affect the usual convenience for most ordinary users whose communication stays within personal contacts. The rollout will begin in test mode in several countries over the coming weeks.
