Turkmentelecom: Digital Transformation and New Opportunities for Cooperation

Avaza, September 19 | ORIENT. During the Turkmenistan Investment Forum (TIF 2025), Turkmentelecom CEO Khozhaniyaz Avganov spoke about the rapid development of the country's telecommunications sector. He emphasized that digital transformation is taking place in line with government programs aimed at creating a fully-fledged digital economy.

Digital Transformation and the Smart City

According to Avganov, digitalization in Turkmenistan affects all key areas:

• E-government and commerce: Services for the public and businesses are being developed.

• Social spheres: Digital solutions are being implemented in medicine and education.

• Advanced technologies: Application of innovations in green energy and agriculture.

Particular attention was paid to the city of Arkadag, the country's first smart and green city. This project has received international recognition for its use of advanced IT solutions and the creation of a unique ecosystem where the entire city infrastructure operates on integrated digital platforms.

Turkmenistan as a Telecommunications Bridge

Turkmentelecom plays a key role in transforming Turkmenistan into an information and communications bridge between East and West, North and South. The country is currently connected to eight international fiber-optic trunk lines linking it with neighboring countries—Kazakhstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan.

• New routes: Last year, construction of the Serhetabat-Herat fiber-optic line began. This project will increase traffic transit and potentially extend the route to India through Afghanistan and Pakistan.

• International projects: Work is underway jointly with Azerbaijan to build, own, and operate a fiber-optic communications system along the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan route across the Caspian Sea.

Invitation to Cooperation

Khojaniyaz Avganov emphasized that Turkmentelecom is always open to mutually beneficial cooperation. He noted that the active development of transnational communications networks and the introduction of modern services will ensure the realization of the entire region's enormous transit potential.

Finally, Avganov invited all interested participants to the international exhibition and scientific conference "Turkmentel-2025," which will be held in Ashgabat from November 12 to 14. This event will provide a convenient platform for companies wishing to participate in digital projects being implemented in Turkmenistan.
