The first summit in the “Central Asia – Italy” format starts in Astana

Today, May 30th, the first summit featuring the heads of state of Central Asia and the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, is opening in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. The official visit of the Italian Head of Government to Kazakhstan will also take place on this day.

Participating in the meeting are the leaders, Presidents of the Central Asian nations – Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The summit is intended to strengthen political dialogue, expand economic and investment cooperation, and identify priority areas of interaction between the states of the region and Italy.

The "Central Asia plus" format of meetings has become a stable platform for dialogue with partners beyond the region. Similar summits have already been held at the level of heads of state with the participation of China, Russia, the United States, the European Union, and other countries. This year, Astana is also expected to host the "Central Asia – China" summit, and Dushanbe will host the "Central Asia – Russia" summit in the autumn.

The Italian side views the Central Asian region as an important partner in matters of energy, logistics, infrastructure, and the fight against global challenges. It is anticipated that joint documents aimed at strengthening multifaceted cooperation will be signed following today's summit.
