07.12.2020 | 10:04 |Caspian Container Lines LLC (St. Petersburg) is launching a pilot line for the delivery of containers from the port of Astrakhan to the ports of Iran, the Ministry of Industry and Natural Resources of the Astrakhan Region reports.
On December 2, the first large batch of containers (60 TEU) with food, cardboard, grain, which are sent to Iran, were loaded aboard a ship, Expert Yug informed. A container line in the Caspian Sea with the basic route Astrakhan port - northern ports of Iran and vice versa is established as part of developing the North-South international transport corridor. The new service will operate in a special port economic zone.
The line currently operates two vessels with a capacity of 131 containers, each 20 feet long.
The main advantages of the container line in the Caspian Sea are shipload lots from one container, regular sailings between ports and fixed tariffs without reference to the market or season.
“We plan to rapidly develop the North-South transport corridor”, said Yuri Tsvetkov, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation. - Of course, this requires addressing a lot of related issues such as dredging, construction of container terminals, development of Astrakhan ports. We see that the regional administration is making a lot of efforts to create optimal conditions for the region to become a point of attraction for freight traffic.
