Dushanbe to host International High-Level Conference on Glacier Conservation

The conference "Strengthening Resilience to Climate Change in Tajikistan: Innovations in Water Management and Glacier Monitoring" was held on February 28 in Dushanbe. The event was organized within the framework of the International Year of Glacier Conservation with the participation of scientists, experts and partners on development.

The conference emphasized that glaciers play a vital role in ensuring the life of humanity and ecosystems, as they are one of the main sources of drinking water and a factor in environmental sustainability. However, the fact that in recent decades, due to climate change, there has been an accelerated melting of glaciers, which can lead to water shortages, serious environmental changes and socio-economic decline in various regions of the world, is of serious concern. Therefore, on the initiative of Tajikistan, the UN General Assembly adopted resolutions declaring 2025 the International Year of Glaciers, and March 21 - World Glacier Day.

According to the National News Agency "Khovar", from May 29 to 31, 2025, the capital of Tajikistan - Dushanbe will host the International High-Level Conference on Glacier Conservation. The event will be held within the framework of the Dushanbe initiative on water resources and will become an important milestone in the international agenda on glacier conservation. The International High-Level Conference is expected to be attended by leaders of states and governments of the region and the world, as well as representatives of major international and regional organizations.
